The Springfield Woman's Club is one of the oldest Woman's Clubs in Florida. Originally founded in 1904 by the women of Springfield who wanted to improve the amenities in the neighborhood and keep animals off the streets, the Club today still adheres to the vision of these women. Our projects have included the installation of bleachers with a canopy in the ball field in Klutho Park and the restoration of the beautiful fountain that was originally created to honor the memory of Mary Dillon, the first President of the Club. Together with volunteers from the Springfield Preservation and Revitalization Council, Inc. (SPAR), the Springfield Garden Club, and interested residents, we are at present replacing the Rose Arbor in Confederate Park. In 2006, we celebrated our 20th Annual Holiday Home Tour with six of our beautiful renovated houses on display. We also held an Art and Craft Show in the Clubhouse, where visitors enjoyed homemade cookies with hot wassail or hot chocolate. Projects like the Holiday Home Tour and the Manhattan Short Film Festival help defray the expenses of the renovation projects we undertake. Visit our History page for more information and photographs about the fountain and our other projects, past, present, and future. Animals still roam the streets of Springfield but while cattle caused the problems in 1904, today we have stray cats and dogs. To help control this, some of our members formed the Springfield Animal Care and Rescue Club. Visit SACARC to find out what they do. |
